Hi,
I am using RAM to design my gravity system. The whole floor is W2 concrete composite deck floor except the blue line cross area is opening area. The column which is clouded is a gravity column and three pin-pin gravity beams connect to this column. Now, I am seeing the significant moment happen at the column connection. I didnt expect to see moment besides the axial compression force. and I am not sure where this moment is from. Pin connection between beams to column shouldn't distribute moment. Does anyone encounter this situation too? I appreciate your help in advance.
Sincerely,
Bo
Steel gravity columns are designed for moments based on the beam reactions times the eccentricity of the connections including the potential of pattern loading of live loads. You'll find some details here: and in the Steel Column manual.
Meanwhile, you should never change deck angles except along a beam or wall line. More on that here: communities.bentley.com/.../21833.effects-of-changing-deck-type
