Hi, All,
I have a question regarding the difference between RAM and STAAD. We have STAAD in the office. I kind of understand it's FEM software with design modules. Then I heard about RAM. I googled both, but I didn't find the main difference between these two. Could you please teach me this?
Thanks,
Dong
Also keep in mind within the Ram brand of software there is Ram Elements (our general purpose FEA software most akin to STAAD.pro), but there is also our RAM Structural System software for Building structural designs, RAM Concept for concrete slab design and RAM Connection for Steel Connection design. Just let us know the task you have at hand and we would be glad to recommend the best software for the job. Our Structural Enterprise License is a nice option for those who want to mix and match software depending on the type of jobs they have, without inventing in a perpetual license of each.
If doing timber design as per Canadian code is something that is important for you then you have to go with STAAD.Pro as it supports the CAN/CSA-086-01 code. RAM Structural System does not design timber. RAM Elements software supports timber design as per the NDS 2005 code, in case it helps. Regarding other items like modeling using multiple materials, modeling beams, joists, masonry walls, concrete walls etc. both RAM Structural System & STAAD.Pro should be able to handle those. It is possible to get Revit model into RAM Structural System or STAAD.Pro (using ISM). RAM Structural System would have a better link to Revit compared to other software. So depending on what is more important for you, you can take your pick.
