STAAD: How to load a surface element with vertical loads?

Hi,

I'm modelling a concrete shear wall using surface elements. The shear walls needs to support gravity load as well, What is the proper way to model this in STAAD?

Thanks,

Dennis

  • If there are other structural entities in the model like beams, slabs and columns, ensure that the shear wall connects to these elements through common nodes when it is meshed internally. For example a beam running along the top edge of the shear wall would have to be broken up into same number of divisions in line with the division used for that edge of the shear wall. Same applies for any slab that connects to the shear wall. The edge of the slab mesh should have the same number of divisions as used for that edge of  shear wall. As long as the connectivity is established, other loads including gravity loads from slabs, beams etc. would transfer to the shear wall

    Hi Sye,

I was modeling a 4th stored building in Staad. Which was holding R.C.C-Column,Beam,Slab & Shear-wall. After completing the project while i tried to import the file in RCDC for detailing purpose, its doesn't showing the shear walls in Column & Wall Section. Its also showing missing Beams, while i tried to import beams for detailing. These beams were those beams which was above shear wall.

    Am i making mistake ?

Help me how to solve this problem. How can i import shear wall i STAAD RCDC?

By the way, I have got an update. But I saw a lots of videos in YouTube regarding RCDC, where wall was also imported! Help me.

  • Shear walls modeled using surface elements or even plates in STAAD.Pro cannot be imported into RCDC. For the shear wall to get imported into RCDC, it would have to be modeled as a wide column in STAAD.Pro

  • I know that, Sye .It will be then helpful for only lateral load resistant purpose . Now if I want to create lift shear wall then it will not be possible. Okay, can you suggest me how can I be able to detail reinforcement arrangement of shear wall of Staad Pro file ? In Structural Ram System  or somewhere else ?
