Can RAM SS be used to get the moment and shear demands for beams of "other" material. Beam module is grey until you model a Steel beam and then once you model a steel beam it only gives output for Steel Members. What is the point of having the "other" material??
In the Steel Beam module, one can only get a diagram of the moments, shears and deflections via the Process - View/Update command - View diagrams, but this won't work for Other material beams. You can make the Other beams lateral members and report the member forces in Ram Frame, you can also get analytical results for Other material beams in Ram Concrete analysis.
Other material beams are used for a variety of things, sometimes to complete a framing system that would otherwise be incomplete (i.e. as dummy members) or sometimes to simulate something that can't be modeled with a normal steel member, like a simplified truss, but if you are using only Ram Steel and you want the beam to be treated as a normal, simply-supported beam it's easier to just call it Steel.
