I'm on a project for a manufactured metal building and I'm engineering the foundation.
The building engineer is using STAAD Pro. I'm don't use that program but I do use RAM. Is there a way to import/export his file so that I can use RAM Foundation? I can't seem to find a way to do this.
Thanks,
Larry
There is no direct way to get the analysis results from STAAD.Pro to do foundation design using RAM Foundation.
The closest option I can think of is to copy the support reactions from STAAD.Pro into an excel table and then manually input these as loads for foundation design using RAM products. However since RAM Foundation works only with RAM Structural System (RSS) hence you cannot use the RAM Foundation as a standalone product without creating at least one column and at least one story in RAM SS. If you have RAM Elements (RE) on the other hand, you may use the Foundation module within that product in a stand-alone mode. The Foundation module within RE also supports direct input of loads into a table and copy paste operations are supported too. So you can copy the reactions from the excel file generated from STAAD.Pro and paste it into these tables to do foundation design using the Foundation module within RE.
Of course the above workflow would require some effort and a much quicker and easier alternative would be to use STAAD Foundation Advanced (SFA ) for designing the foundations if the structure is already analyzed in STAAD.Pro. SFA is fully integrated with STAAD.Pro and can directly read the STAAD.Pro support reactions for foundation design.
I hope this offers some direction.
