New Custom Section for Ram Elements

I would like to create a new section shape for use in Ram Elements.  The new shape has 2 standard AISC wide flange shapes with one WF turned 90 degrees to the other one so that the top flange is completely in contact with the web of the other WF at the centerlines.  For example, I would like to weld the top flange of a W12x53 to the web of a W14x22.  The minor axis of the W12 would be turned 90 degrees and match up with the major axis of the W14.

I may be adding several new sections of this type.  Can you help me get started?

  • You will need to create a .LEO file for the section. Section 16 in the RAM Elements Manual discusses the contents of this file.

The section that you describe is similar to the existing "Cross3W" section that is installed with the program. See below. I recommend making a copy of the Cross3W.leo file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\RAM Elements\Leos and then modifying it to match your section.

  • Thanks, Karl. I found the file at [C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\Engineering\RAM Elements.en\Leos]. I got through editing most of the LEO. The manual did not have an explanation for the DrawDXF section and I got lost trying to figure it out. I am guessing this has something to do with the rendering view which I find is very helpful to follow the orientation of the section. Can you help me here?

Is there an upload/download area where people have submitted their own LEO files to share with others?
