I am modeling a bridge with four 72" deep plate girders + 10" thick concrete deck on top. I have modeled everything using plate elements and I'm in the process of calculating the midspan moments due

RE: Plate Girder Bridge - Neutral Axis to Calculate Moment at Midspan

Amir : All your points are correct.

RE: Plate Girder Bridge - Neutral Axis to Calculate Moment at Midspan

Thank you for answering my previous questions, Sye! I have another question regarding the proper way to calculate shear in the plate girder at midspan.

1) Is it correct to calculate shear in the girder web by summing (Sxy * Plate Depth * Plate Thickness) for each web plate at midspan?

2) Is it correct to calculate shear in the girder flanges by summing (Qy * Plate Width * Plate Thickness) for each flange plate at midspan?

3) Is the total shear in the plate girder at midspan equal to the sum of all the shear in the girder web plates and girder flange plates?

RE: Plate Girder Bridge - Neutral Axis to Calculate Moment at Midspan

1.	Calculating moments about the centroid of the plate girder would be appropriate
2.	It would not make a difference in your model
