Good day,
I don't know if this is possible, but I am trying to assign a member with compression-only specification while still retaining the moment fixity of the member. As soon as I assign a member as compression-only, it treats the member like a compression-only truss member, with moments released. Please help!
Regards,
Neil
A compression only member would be considered as an axial only member and it would not have any ability to take moments. So I think your best bet is to define it as a normal member with no releases ( this would ensure moment fixity ) and then examine the nature of forces in those members. If there are certain load cases for which the member develops a tension force, you may use the INACTIVE command to turn the members off from the analysis for such cases.
