RAM moment connection

I am doing a moment bolted connection design in RAM connection. The moment resistance capacity remains unchange and it shows failure even though i modify the bolting arrangement . I need to pass this in RAM instead of doing a manual checking which i feel is not necessary while having RAM software Snap2.docx

  • If the sign conventions of the forces you have entered are correct, then you may try the following modifications to pass this connection:

    1) Add Column web panel zone stiffeners - Supplementary web plates.

     Set Position to Both Sides
     Set Thickness to 16 mm
     Set Web plates extension to 120 mm
     Set the required material
     Set welding electrode
     Set Support weld size to 16 mm

    2) Increase the end plate thickness to 30 mm
    3) Change bolts to M30
    4) Change Top and Bottom flange weld type to Fillet and set weld size to 12 mm.

    With these modifications the connection should pass with ratio 0.99 for the applied forces.
