When I choose the License Management Tool from STAAD one of the products listed is "Recommendation Engine". I searched around the Bentley website a little bit but I can't find any info on it. What the heck is it?
The Recommendation Engine is free and not "licensed" per-se but it uses licensing just to track usage. It's not supposed to appear in the LMT for activation, so the developers asked for License Logs from your machine in order to see what's going on. You can send the license log directly to me through a private message or use the secure file upload if it's large.
When I saw this post from Neha I realized Seth never really answered my question, which is, what is the Recommendation Engine? Before I spend time messing around with the log I would like to know what it is. So no one else is seeing this in the license management tool?
It's not something I know well, but I am asking the Product Manager for some details.
Seth, I found this: https://communities.bentley.com/products/licensing/w/licensing__wiki/28887/what-is-the-recommendation-engine-and-why-is-it-not-activated.
Still not abundantly clear to me what it is but this makes me think it is not unusual at all that it is showing up in the LMT. I guess when he talks about the Project Chooser he's talking about this
Right? But why would you call this a recommendation engine? What's it recommending? I don't get it. I know it's probably not that big of a deal, but when I see software that no one can explain and am told it's "free", the cynic in me starts thinking "spyware".
The original version of the project chooser was going to recommend software to use based on the type of project, but that part was never implemented, which explains the odd name.
