Sir/Madam,
I need some clarification on the beam design and deflection parameters defining in STAAD Pro.
In the model, I have used IS 800 (Limit state method) as the design code check.
My requirement is I want beam no. 83 , 84 & 81 to be considered as single beam in design checking .
So I defined beam no. 83 , 84 & 81 with LZ 2.5m and
For deflection check I defined beam no. 83 , 84 & 81 with DJ1 as 37 & DJ2 as 44.
Whether this way of defining is correct??
Consider beam no . 83
I have defined DFF as 325
Deflection length (dff) should be the distance between the defined nodes ( i.e here it should be between DJ1 & DJ2 defined ) but in the output file it is giving some other value ( 6817) ?? Whether my defining way is wrong ?
Pls. clarify and correct my defining parameters.
I have attached the model.

You are using only DJ1 parameters in your model, i.e.:
Change DJ1 to DJ2 for node 44 or 37 and see if you are getting the expected results. The same should be done to the other beams where the deflection check is being performed.
Thank you ...
I have changed your indicated parameter.
But i am unable to get the expected results .. pls. check the model.
Displacement of nodes 37 and 44 is 0.786 mm. This can be seen in the Nodes Displacement table. Maximum global deflection of beams 81, 83 and 84 is 1.275 mm. You can see it by double clicking on member 83 and going to Deflection tab. So the local deflection is 1.275 - (0.786 + 0.786)/2 = 0.489 mm.
Thank you for clear reply.
My other requirement is I want beam no. 83 , 84 & 81 to be considered as single beam in design checking .
So I defined beam no. 83 , 84 & 81 with LZ 2.5m .
Whether this parameter is correct and sufficient to check?
or any other paramter to be considered?
Sir,
Deflection part is now clear .Thank you
Pls. clarify other doudt ,

Pls.clarify this doudt .
waiting for your reply
Can anyone pls. help to clear the doudt ...
Based on your DJ1 and DJ2 & LZ specification for members 81 83 84 it is apparent that you want to consider the physical member to be spanning between nodes 37 and 44. Since you have beams modeled in orthogonal directions the default for LY and lateral torsional bucking parameters should hold good. So as far as I can see specifying DJ1, DJ2 and LZ should be fine.
Thank you sir....
I need one more clarification.
In the model i have changed column section to box column section ( section created in section wizard) where the column cross section axis is Y-Z. ( attached column cress section)
Now assigning this column section in STAAD model. what will be orientation axis of column. ( Since i am not able to view the 3d render of column , i have doudt how the column orientation will be assigned).
Can anyone pls. clarify the doudt
Plot the local axis of the column (SHFT+O). Check how the local Y and Z are oriented. You know the values of Iy and Iz too. So combining both information you can understand how the column is oriented. Use beta angles if you have to change the orientation.
i have seen the local axis but how to identify which column orientation . Where do i get the ly & lz values of column in STAAD ??
I am unable to get the column orientation .i have seen the local axis but how to identify which way column is oriented. Where do i get the ly & lz values of column in STAAD ??
