Dear moderator,
When I try to make load combinations using "Auto Load Combination" and try to include "Notional Load", STAAD takes Dead Load with factor 0.0028 and Live Load with factor 0.0032.
BS5950 states that it has to be 0.5% of factored Loads.
0.5/100*1.4=0.007
0.5/100*1.6=0.008
please explain.
Regards,
The AISC stipulates the notional load as 0.2% and the factors you see for the notional load are stemming from that. I don't think there is a way to change this for automatic load generation as per BS5950 code but I will double check.

I found an easy way to address this. Just go to the Direct Analysis Definition and set the notional load factor as 0.005 as shown in the screenshot below. Although you are not going to perform a Direct Analysis in this case but regardless this should set up the notional load factors appropriately in the Automatic Load generation
Yes, it works.
Great.
Thank you.
Dear Sye,
This method that you suggested to define notional load factor through definition of Direct Analysis Definition in order to use it later in Auto load combinations, has some restrictions? Please se the error below.
Ivan : Once the load combinations are generated, just comment out the DIRECT ANALYSIS definition from the file as shown next and run the analysis
*DEFINE DIRECT ANALYSIS
*NOTIONAL LOAD FACTOR 0.025
*END
