renumbering not working in STAAD

I've been experiencing this in many projects, renumbering is not functioning at all. I get the message that xxx plates were renumbered successfully but looking at the plates table everything is the same.

I tried all options ascending and descending with no hope. Another thing to note, let's say I have 8599 plates in my model, if I choose to renumber in descending order starting from 8599 I get an error that renumbering is resulting in negative values and hence 0 plates renumbered.

I think the problem is also with members, nodes and solids.

  • Sorry it took sometime to respond. Just for the records since I opened the topic, it seems this is happening because I didn't know that beams and plates cannot have the same number. So when I'm expecting to have a plate numbering starting from number 1 it will not happen because there is a beam already using this number.

  • Hello Sye,

Currently I'm using STAAD CE 21.03.00.146, yet i've noticed a few things lagging - in terms of renumbering:

    1) Even if i choose the option 'descending' and click the '>' arrow, the choosen option shows 'ascending' within parentheses. - still it gets the job done...

    2) If the last number to be arrived is 1 using the 'descending' option, STAAD doesn't renumber. (e.g.) if there are 5 nodes in ascending numbers along X axis, if I choose renumbering with 'descending' option along X, and the initial value to be 5, it doesn't renumber, instead shows a error/warning message.
