I've looked through the manual and the forum here and haven't found a definitive answer. Can repeat loads be made from reference loads or can they only be made from primary load cases? The reason I ask is if you add a new load, reference loads are under the repeat load tab- hence my confusion. See the picture below.
See the load cases below in the picture. Load Case 1 is made from reference loads R1 and R2, whereas Load Case 4 is made from load cases 2 and 3. Are both Load Case 1 and Load Case 4 considered repeat load cases? The manual does not say repeat loads cannot be made from reference loads. Thanks.
REPEAT LOADs are created from Primary load cases. Reference Loads are not available in the list of items when you go to define a REPEAT LOAD. However Reference loads are available when you go to define a Primary Load case. So the answer to your first question is, REPEAT LOADs can be made out of Primary Load cases and not reference loads. However you do NOT need to create primary loads from reference loads so that you can get these primary loads included later in REPEAT LOADs. So going by your example, load cases 2, 3 and 4 need not be created. Load case 4 is the same as load case 1 and both are considered as primary load cases. So just creating a primary load with the reference load cases is good enough or in other words defining the load case 1 is good enough.

Thanks for the reply. Can load case 1 (the load case from the reference loads) be used for P-Delta/Direct Analysis similar to REPEAT LOADS?
Absolutely.
