GEOMETRY PROBLEMS

Question

I am new in staad pro so please answer this question in very easy language....! 
 what is differences between plates and surfaces. 
 if i want to make slab or floor i can use both of these which one is correct for floor or slabs... 
 and what type of geometries where we can use them............?

Surfaces should be used for the design of the shear walls only. In all other cases, plate elements should be used.
