Before installing the new CONNECT update, I was able to open any file with either the new interface (CONNECT Edition) or the old STAAD if I needed to finish quick and do not have time to familiarize with the new interface. After the update the old STAAD icon got removed from task bar and I can not find it anywhere. Please advise how to solve this quickly.
The old V8i interface is not available in STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition anymore.
This was not mentioned in the update info. I specifically read all of it to make sure it was not deleted before I install. It should have been mentioned!! Please find a way to get it back or download it again. It was the best.
The old interface is not available in STAAD.Pro Connect Edition version. But you can still use STAAD.Pro v8i version in the same machine where you have installed the Connect Edition version. You have mentioned that somehow the icon is removed. So I presumed that STAAD.Pro v8i version was already installed in your machine. In such case, go to "C:\SProV8i SS6\STAAD" folder (for SS6 version, for older version, folder name might be different) and search for "Staadpro.exe" file. This file will launch the old STAAD.Pro version. You can create a shortcut of this file to your desktop if you want to use the old interface of STAAD.
In that case you must do the Ribon Bar customizable (same as in MicroStation). The nostalgia for V8i is not only because people used to it - it's also because in a new Ribbon Bar some icons are placed inconveniently to different ribbons, which causes multiple mouseclicks for just changing e.g. view during the analytical modeling.

We have introduced few customizations in the new interface to easily access the icons that are frequently used. Refer the below wiki link for more details.
