Microstran- Adding a double rectangular section to the section library to be visible in rendering

HI,

I am wondering if there is a way to add a double rectangular section to the section library to be visible in rendering in Microstran? I have tried to add a new section as (in Section Library Manager) Double-angle and Double C and it is not allowed saying tf, t is not valid.

Many Thanks.

  • Hi Seth,

Thanks for the response. If we can choose to save the input values against given values it will be added to the error report. As a result, that section won't be available in the model space in the relevant section category although it appears in the section library manager.

I have not got yet a solution for this problem.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Shan,

Try to bring in a section from section category  "Channel Toe to Toe", modify the dimensional properties, but make all the engineering properties "0", No need to click "Compute", make sure you change the section name before hitting OK.

For example, the above section doesn't exist in the official NZ nor AS section library.

Leaving it as 0 is fine. Alternatively, you can directly edit the library ASC file, File-->Configure --> Edit Library

The highlighted line is a new entry, the line above that a original entry from the standard libraries. Seeing as the original entries have "0"s for the engineering properties, it is fine for us to follow suit.

When you close, it will compile the data from this text file into a binary "lib" file, in the process it calculates the engineering properties of the sections.

    It renders fine in 3D:

If you were to jump into member properties, and click member "values" and override these numbers, it assumes, you want to explicitly state the engineering properties instead of the default calculated, at this stage, it becomes analysis member (decompose to the 6 engineering section properties) and loses its sense of belonging to a section category(shape) and a library,, consequently.. also lose ability to render in 3D as well.

    Hope that helps,

    Cheers,

    WZ

  • Thanks a lot Wentao for your time and detail explanation. I will try it in this way.
