Hello,
This is my first stab at using RAM so please forgive any necessary hand holding while attempting to help me.
I hear that RAM is able to share the results of its module design with other modules in RAM. How can I redesign the beams and columns to stop them from failing after the analysis with the Frame module?
I am still getting large deflections in my building and some members indicated as failing after the frame module, I would appreciate any help in how to get the members to be redesigned for the lateral loads and deflections.
Thanks,
I have uploaded the model using the communities secure file upload. The file name is "Ram Help.rss"
If you do not assign any size to the lateral steel beams and columns in Modeler, then the Ram Steel Beam and Column modules will select a preliminary size for you, based on gravity loads only, with beams treated as simple spans. Getting a design that works in Ram Frame for strength and also for drift is a more complicated matter. You can try different sizes in Ram Frame - Steel mode to check the strength. Controlling deflections is often a trial and error process. We do provide the Drift Control module as a tool to help with optimizing lateral systems for drift. It looks like you already have the hang of that.

With the Ram Help.rss file the structure is pretty tall with hss columns, adding depth to the lower levels beams or depth to the columns, especially in the Y direction would help.

Thanks for the input, I will manually adjust the columns and beams until passing.
