Hello,
I´m designing a shear plate connection in RAM Connection, and the stress ratio is ok but, shows the next warning: “stabilizer plates are needed”.
I already tried to find the option to solve this issue but I could not find it. Anyone knows how to solve it? What is the program referred to with stabilizing plates?
The connection is the next:
Thanks in advance
Regards!
We have an enhancement logged for this. Enhancement 945855:Extended Single Plate - Stabilizer requirement - option for deck braces beam/joint.
In an extended single plate connection there may be a warning, “Stabilizer plates are required” (when the plate is too thin)
Version 12.00.01.40
Code: AISC 360-10 LRFD
Connection: Single plate beam to column web extended, 5x2 bolts, 1/2" plate.
Warning: - "Stabilizer plates are required", regardless of demand, unless plate thickness is increased.
It would appear that the program always checks this. According to a steel interchange I found, the check is really only required where there is no other means of stabilizing the beam, and hence the program ought to have some option or check box to indicate that there is a diaphragm/deck bracing the beam.
Ok, I chose this kind of connection in order to help to reduce unbraced lenght of main beam, also I have opposite connection (same connection geometry) but I don´t have clear phisically what is a stabilizing plates, do you have some picture or sketch?
Thank you very much
