I am designing a small hoisting structure, where all connections are pinned (no moment connections). I'm having difficulty modeling the start and end releases properly within STAAD. Would the attached model be correct? The beams which are continuous over another connection have no releases at their joints, correct? I'm getting warnings and notes when i run the analysis.Fire Pump & Motor Structure.std
The problem with having all the column beam connections and the supports pinned is that you have an unstable structure. STAAD.Pro has added weak springs to over come the instability issues. How do you intend to stabilise this frame, is it attached to another structure?
Thank you. Yes, i intend to stabilize the structure using a few braces to a nearby structure. The load is minimal.
I would tend to release the ends about the major and minor axis only, i.e. MY and MZ. Please ensure that braces are available in both the X and Z directions.
In order to avoid instability warnings, you should not release all the members connected to a specific node, there should be at least one that is not a released member at that joint. I suggest you don't release the column.
