When the footing is subjected to lateral forces/moments, portions of it may be subjected to uplift and lose contact with the soil. This input ensures that when the software tries to find out a suitable foundation size, it ensures that at least a specified percentage is always in contact with the soil.
You may go to Help > Contents from within the software to access the manuals. The Verification Manual option within Help can be used to access the verification examples on the various foundation modules.
By default STAAD Foundation Advanced distributes 40% of the pier load to the Shell end and 60% to the Channel end but you can modify that if needed.
