STAAD Foundation Verification question - one way shear - effective depths along X and Z

Hello,

I'm in the process of verification of STAAD Foundation for Jacobs and the problem in hand is 5.6 US Isolated Foundation 6 (Page 299) from the verification manual.

I'm getting same effective depths (15.88 in) along x and z directions in the one way shear calculation results while it should be different (16.625 and 15.875 ) per the comparison table listed at the end of the example in the manual.

Please let me know where I'm going wrong, I'm attaching the .sfa file for your perusal.

Thank you,

Vic

  • Yes you are correct. The software is using the same depth for both directions and that should not be the case. For the scenario when the shear plane is parallel to global X ) the effective depth should be considered as 15.875 in and for the other direction ( shear plane parallel to global Z ) the effective depth should be considered as 16.625 in. I have logged a defect ( id# 996455 ) asking for this to be addressed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
