Is there a way to define the default location to save my work files? The program is default to a network location as of currently.
By default, files are saved within the current working directory. So every time you do a manual save or an automatic save, a backup file gets created in the same folder where your model is. However if you want this backup to be made in a different folder, you can set that up from inside the Backup Manager. In the STAAD.Pro Connect Edition you need to go to File > Tools > Open Backup Manager and use the option highlighted below to make the change.
In older versions of STAAD.Pro like the v8i, the option is available within File > Open Backup Manager
Also I would like to add that when you work with a file on a particular directory and close out of the software, it remembers that path and so next time if you try to create a new file, the Location would be the last directory you worked on. You can always change the location using the Browse button as shown below

STAAD Foundation Advanced saves the data in the same folder in which the model is. To save to a different folder you have to use Save As.
Like STAAD.Pro it does remember the path location in which the last work was done. So next time when you create a New file or try to Open a file you will be taken to that folder by default. Of course you can change it if required.
