Hi
I am trying to use automatic wind generation facility and with EC 1-4 and have basic wind intensity as around 1.3kPa while it works out to be around 2.1kPa as peak pressure while taking into account structure solidity ratio, CsCd parameters, slenderness etc..
How can I use these values with automatic wind generation facility within staad. Can I state the peak wind intensity with elevation or use the basic value and specifying the factor 2.1/1.3 =1.61.
Staad have button for calculation as per ASCE -does it automatically adjust (magnify) the user specified value or leaves it alone until someone has specified parameters as per ASCE.
Thanks
STAAD.Pro cannot do automatic wind load generation as per the Euro code. So in your case, when you choose automatic wind load generation, you need to choose the type as Custom and define the wind intensity vs height data directly ( including any magnification ) as opposed to entering the parameters like basic wind speed, solidity ratio etc.
thanks
but when using the template for specifying the custom wind speed there is a button for ASCE calculations. I was trying to clarify that staad does not modify the custom/ user defined wind speed using parameters within that ASCE option unless told to do so by clicking on the button.
e.g. if I specify an intensity of 1kPa then it will remain so unpess I opt to use ASCE parameters.
Yes that is correct
thanks sye.
can one generate upward wind loads (for both clad and open structures) using wind generation facility within staad.
thanks.
Automatic wind load generation can only generate lateral wind loads. However you can always apply floor loads/nodal loads/member loads as part of the same wind load case to simulate wind acting on the roof.
