I have a building with moment frames. All lateral columns are fixed at the bottom and the pile caps keep failing with tension in the piles. I pinned the columns at the bottom, thinking it will make it worse, and it actually all worked. So the tension does not come from the coupled moment from the moment frame, but it comes from the bottom moment. How does RAM calculate this, and wouldn't the moment be resolved in the base plate connection and not in the piles?
Refer to the RamFoundation.pdf manual, section 4.16.1 Pile Cap Analysis for details on how pile forces are determined. Moments at the column base do contribute.
