Hi all
I am designing a workshop (steel structure) in staad pro
I using a bracing into a column
I already use member specification -> release in the bracing
and i try use "tension only"
but my structure still accept press force and still fail
maybe there is someone who wants to explain the detail, I will be very helpful
Here my staad,

Most of your members are failing due to slenderness check. If you want to pass the members try increasing their size in such a way that their radius of gyration gets increased. By default 200 & 300 are the maximum slenderness limit for compression and tension members. Try to limit them within that value.
On a different note, if you want to bypass slenderness check you may use MAIN and TMAIN parameter with value 1. Please refer help file for more details.
I would also like to tell you that try to provide all the design parameters before check code command all together. Also delete extra perform analysis commands.

I try use MAIN and TMAIN parameter with value 1, but the result of the bracing still doesn't make sense
the result from the other structure is oke now, but the bracing is still the same
Here the update staad

Your design parameters were not checked as "check code" command was not associated with the parameters. I have changed them and now see the difference. Please note. using MAIN & TMAIN parameter with value 1 bypass slenderness check. So use it wisely, otherwise the structure may become unsafe due to slenderness issue.

I read that MAIN is for compression, and TMAIN is for tension
So, is it oke when we assign MAIN for bracing too?
Because as far as I know, the bracing must be design for tension while it accept a little compression
Correct me if I'm wrong
Bracings are designed for both tension and compression cases. You may define them as tension or compression member if you wish they should not carry both type of forces.
The model i sent before is where i define the bracing as a tension and still fail
but when you assign MAIN in the bracing, there is no fail member
Can you explain how we define the bracing as a tension? what parameter or member specifications I should add?
Main parameter is associated with compression slenderness check. So the member was subjected to compression member.
You can specify the member as tension member from Specifications>Beam> Tension.
Can we assign Tension and Release at the same time in the member?
or we have to choose one?
