Hello everyone,
I use the Ram concept software to design the flat slabs by adding the PT required when the tensile strength exceeds the allowed value.
However, recently, I found that it can be reduced by adding the reinforcement required.
I can find excatly the quantity required of rebars but i couldn't add it in the software therefore it can take it into consideration.
Someone can help me, please.
Best regards,
OK, let me try to illustrate using ACI 318-11 references. The stress limit in section 18.3.3 is 6*(root f 'c) for 2-way PT slabs. No amount of reinforcement can solve a problem where the stress exceeds this limit.
Conversely, the 3*(root f'c) limit in section 18.4.1 is not a hard limit, but when that limit is exceeded, "additional bonded reinforcement shall be provided in the tensile zone to resist the total tensile force in concrete computed with the assumption of an uncracked section". This is done automatically by the program as part of the initial service rule.
The more likely condition to control is the minimum requirements from 18.9.3.2 which require additional steel when the bottom stress exceeds 2(root f'c).
Im using the eurocode 2 and also the same question for the ACI.
I mean when a tensile strength exceeds the admissible value, have i to reduce it whith adding reinforcement as a first check ?
Does Adapt software can impact on reducing the tensile strength by adding the reinforcement contrary to Ram Concept ?
Thank you,
What design code are you asking about? You can provide user reinforcement in Ram Concept, but that's not directly going to impact the service less concrete extreme fiber stress.
