In RAM SS, I have a group of beams that I know the sizes I want, but need to come up with number of studs and camber. Is there a way I can do this? All steel beams are specified as composite in the modeler. I've gone to "process" and cleared both designs and sizes. I then go to "assign -> beam size" and assigned beam sizes to these specific group of beams. Finally, I go to "process -> design all." This designs all the beams I have not assigned sizes to, including their studs and camber, but does not design the studs and cambers for the beams I had previously given beam sizes to.I know one way around this would be to clear skip assigning beam sizes and go back to the modeler and apply beam constraints that could kind of "trick" RAM into designing the composite beams with the sizes I want.
I'm wondering if there is a simpler way.
Thanks,David
Someone at the office had encountered this problem before but I am posting it for others that may encounter the problem.
Assigning a beam size also assigns a beam design, so if you assign a size and then clear design, you can get the stud and camber design for that specific beam size.
This should work. First assign the specific size in the Modeler. While you are there confirm that the beam is designated to be composite and the deck is composite. If not change properties.
If the program can't design it compositely, maybe because it can't fit enough studs for minimum composite action, then you should get a warning to that effect. There are some settings under Criteria - Stud criteria to potentially change in that case.
