DEFLECTION ON CONCRETE MEMBERS

IF I HAVE A CONCRETE MEMBER CUT BY SEVERAL NODES TO CONNECT TO IT, HOW TO GAIN THE DEFLECTION OF THAT MEMBER?

    The query posted by Universe is for concrete member. I tried my best to find out if there is any parameter in concrete design such as DFF, DJ1 and DJ2 as advised by you but I could not. The above parameters are, of course, in steel design. I, therefore, request you to advise us to deal with similar situation for concrete member. I also request you, Sir to excuse me if I have not understood your clarification clearly.

  • Check the parameters named DFF, DJ1, and DJ2.  DFF is used to specify the ratio of "Deflection Length" to allowable

    deflection.  DJ1 is used to identify the node at one end of the girder.  DJ2 is used to specify the node at the other end of the girder.

    All three parameters should be assigned to all of the girder segments.  The effect will be to instruct STAAD.Pro to:

    1. Consider deflections when performing code checking on the named beam segments.

    2. Consider the "deflection length" of the girder to be the distance between the DJ1 node and the DJ2 node.

    3. Net out the displacement at the DJ1 node and the DJ2 node.

    4. Evaluate the net deflection all along the length of the girder and compare it to "Deflection Length"/DFF.

    Note that Property Reduction Factor specifications (if any are assigned) will have a linear effect on the component of deflection due to bending, but will have NO influence on the component of deflection due to shear deformations.
