BRBF - Seismic Provisions D1.4a(b) - Column Required Strength Failure

Question

In checking the seismic provisions for BRBF columns, I have a number of columns that are failing the required strength based on E amplified by Omega_o for compression. The Pu for compression in each case is some extreme value that appears to be an error. This is happening in random column segments throughout the model. It appears to be isolated to D1.4a(b) in compression. Sample output attached for reference.

We have logged Defect #1024490 for this issue and flagged it as a critical issue. The D1.4a(b) forces should match the forces for the amplified seismic load combinations. The Member Force Envelope report in RAM Frame - Steel mode - Seismic Provisions will list the correct forces that should be used in the check.

The underlying issue is associated with the B2 factor used to amplify forces and moments. In your model, you have included P-Delta in Analysis mode, so there is no need to include B2 in the steel design. To resolve the problem in your model, click on RAM Frame - Steel mode - Standard Provisions - Criteria - B1 and B2 Factors, uncheck the box for B2, and then proceed with the designs.
