Hi All,
I have attached the model generated by STAAD Foundation Advanced Connect Edition (v8.4.1). Anyone can help me find the answer to the following questions:
2. Regarding the sliding check, I could not find a way to account for the active soil pressure on the footing side. Is there any way to make it possible?
3. On page 390 of 719, the governing load case for footing 30 is #328 which is -4.87 kip uplift. Weight of the footing is 12.98 kip and the soil weight on top of the footing is 3.87 kip. Why the software uses this footing size, can we reduce it?
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thank you,
-Amir

The first thing I would suggest is to use a more recent version of the software. A new version 9.1.0.14 has been released in the recent past. Please try with that version. In the global settings, under Rigid Foundation settings, there is something called Bearing Capacity Settings. Please ensure that Gross or Net is chosen correctly depending on what bearing capacity value you are entering.
In the recent versions of the software, we introduced the option to include passive pressure in checking sliding and overturning. This is done for isolated footing though and not for strap footing. For strap you may lower the factor of safety against sliding/overturning if required.
