Are there plans to update RAM Structural System to more easily accommodate the ductility requirement for composite beam flexural capacity noted in the new AISC 16th Edition Manual (last sentence of Section I3.2d.1)? If so, when can we expect that?

RAM update for AISC 15th Edition, particularly new ductility requirement for composite beams

  • The option to satisfy that requirement by enforcing the methodology outlined in the Commentary for I3.2d(1) was implemented in V15.08, released in April 2018. That methodology states that nothing is required for beams with spans of 30' or less, and that the requirement can be considered satisfied if there are either enough studs for at least 50% composite or studs that provide at least 16k/ft of shear capacity, which is approximately one stud per foot. That option can be selected in the Criteria - Stud Criteria command. The program will add studs if necessary to satisfy one or the other of those two criteria.
