Parameters Check for Truss

Dear Altruists,

I am trying to design an Arched truss roof for an indoor stadium. Please observe my assigned specifications, parameters and other necessary aspects to give me proper suggestions to design it correctly.

Also, I will be delighted if you suggest me other aspects I may have omitted here but need to be considered for proper practice of Codes.

With best regards,

  • Thank you Mr. Sye for your precious time! I'll certainly reconsider my Codes to be used. But I am mainly tensed about Lz and Ly for this truss structure. Whether use it or not what are better options? If use it, then what would be the value?

  • Here are some observations

The codes you are using are pretty dated. For example UBC as opposed to IBC for the seismic loads and steel design code LRFD ( which is the LRFD 3rd edition code ) as opposed to something more recent like AISC UNIFIED 2010 or 2016.

You have used Tapered I sections whereas the start and end depths of the members seem to be the same. For such cases it is better to use wide flange sections through user table.

There seem to be some high deflections in the Z direction at the top of the pipe sections like nodes 638, 412 etc. as these have little restraint in Z. You may want to check if these are acceptable.

You have used UNT 1.3 for the members of the top chord for the truss. Is that because you have lateral restraints in your structure that you have not modeled in your analysis model ? If yes then fine, else you may want to check.
