HSS Splice Connection Issue

Hello,

I'm using RAM Connection version v12 (12.00.01.40) and I have a couple of questions:

1. There is currently no way of doing HSS beam splice connections, is this correct?

2. Assuming the above is correct, I tried doing an HSS column splice connection using the EP Bolted connection type. I applied shear and moment to this connection as shown in the first image below, but the module is not recognizing these loads and is showing a stress ratio of zero. If you look at the second image below, when I click on Loads it's only recognizing Axial loads which I don't have any. Am I missing something or is this an error with this module? If so, will there be a fix?

Thank you

  • Hello,

    1. You are correct HSS splices just for columns for the time being.

    2. When you create a joint you can enter all the possible forces for the different existing connections, the end plate column splice is based on the AISC Design Guide 24 which is exclusively for members subjected to axial tension that is the reason you only see axial there. We will add validation in order to show a message indicating that this connection does not support shear nor moments to avoid confusion.
