Hello,
I have a model in which there is a beam divided in 3 parts because of intermediary steel members (32, 73, 78). As this beam is only restricted laterally and not vertically I gave length (Ly) in vertical direction as combined length of the beam.
Is this the right procedure to model in STAAD or should I not give Ly as 18ft in this model.
Any help will be appreciated.

I could not locate beams 32,73,78 in same line. I think it will be 32,73,38. For that beam before assigning Ly or Lz you need to know the local axis orientation. You can on that from lebel settings or by pressing SHIFT+O. Here, the beam is supported along local Z direction and not supported along local Y direction. So, here Lz will be 18ft and ly will be as supported length.
