Dear Staad Masters/Pros.How can I model a protal bracing(Blue) in staad so i can incorporate it in a 3D model of my structure.I have been trying for ages. I'm not good at STAAD, in fact i'm a beginner and I've been trying to sort things out...The image is a column with another column beside its weak axis and is bolted tightly spaced to counter moment in the direction perpendicular to the main frame.Thank You...Bes regards,Lanz
One option would be to model just what you showed, the original structure and the new structure both, with nodes a small distance away. To make the new column and original column act as a unit you could link them together at a few points (nodes) along the height. This is fairly straight forward, and the columns will share the loads naturally as a result of the finite element analysis. Be careful with the steel design since the combined shape K factor and unbraced length may be necessary.
Another option would be to create a new combined shape profile and use that in a single column in a STAAD model. Based on your image only, that seems more complicated.

Thank You. I tried placing 2 beams in between 2 nodes applying offset to one of the beams. Then divided them into multiple short segments of beams. Will it affect the accuracy if I do it this way? I used the Unbraced Length as the whole length of the column and the default k=1.
Kindly please make a short video or steps to make portal brace in staad pro. Thanks
Dear Sir.
have you known how to model that. could you share to me how to model portal brace in staad pro. what if you can share me the short video or steps to model that.
