I have a question about the IFACT value which should be used when compiling my Tower file. My structure is a fully triangulated structure with a majority of the connections being 2-3 bolts.
I have noticed that when I decrease the IFACT value for 1.0 to 0.5-0.1 that the stresses on the members decrease. I am just curious if I am able to decrease the IFACT value for my tower?
The IFACT factor “fact” is normally set to 1. For values less than 1 member flexural stiffness is reduced and the typically small bending moments found in towers are reduced and the structure behaviour is closer to that of a a pin-jointed structure.
Factor IFACT should be set to 1 for second-order analysis, ECL analysis, or dynamic analysis.
Thanks for the reply, I am still unsure if I am able to reduce the 'IFACT' factor for my tower. The only reason I am looking into this is because the bracing members are over 90% while I have the IFACT at 1.0, where as when I decrease the IFACT to 0.4-0.5 it is below 90%. Just wanna clarify if I am able to do so.
I would tend to keep the value at 1.0 to accommodate the small bending moments in the tower. You can reduce the value taking account of the comments made previously.
