Study 3_foundation.sfaPDFHi,
Please see attached STAAD Foundation file and Report. The Ultimate Moment (Mz) that the program appears to be using for designing Bottom Reinforcement appears to be only half of what it should be. STAAD is calculating the moment Mz as 24.24 k-ft however per hand calc check I'm getting moment Mz as 49.88 k-ft.
The moment for calculating Top Reinforcement appears to be correct though. Can you please advise if I'm missing something. Can you please advise what soil pressure did the program use for calculating the shear and moment diagram. How was the pressure derived?
Thanks,
Dennis
Follow up question. In the same attached report how is the program calculating:
1. ρ required = 0.0021 k-ft? I'm not getting the same number. Can you please show how ρ was derived. Also, why "k-ft? Should be unitless right?
2. What "b" and "d" is the program using to calculate ρ required?
There is a verification manual supplied with the program that provides information on all these things. For the US code, you will find 17 worked out examples in which the individual steps involved in the design, such as, service load checks, design for flexure, oneway shear, punching shear, development length, etc. are explained. We suggest you have a look at them, and let us know if there is something that is still not clear.
You can access the manual from Help - Verification manual.
I did check the verification manual but the Manual is not making sense either. See attached. So can you please provide answers to my original questions. PDF
Please provide response to this question as well.
Follow-up on this question. I would appreciate a response as I'm on a time crunch on a project and need to verify a.s.a.p. if the program is performing the design correctly and design results can be relied upon.
