STAAD error message: Exception [Access violation] Raised! Aborting analysis...

Hi,

I have a large STAAD model file for a linear analysis of a space frame. I have used the INACTIVE MEMBER/PERFORM ANALYSIS/CHANGE commands to sequence the framing as the loading is applied.

When I run the analysis I get an error message stating "Exception [Access violation] Raised! Aborting analysis..."

I have attached the input file for reference. Please note this file is an attempt to merge 2 existing models together. It uis a work in progress hence my query and the fairly messy state of the file!

Can anyone advise why I am getting this error?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

  • When you turn members INACTIVE you need to ensure that you do not end up with nodes that get disconnected from the rest of the structure because of the assignment. For example you declared the members 716 and 717 as INACTIVE and so the node 434 is left dangling in space as it is disconnected from the rest of the model. These are going to cause issues in the analysis.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I suspect that there is some corruption in the file I uploaded previously. I have created another model with essentially the same input and I do not get a similar error.

However as you note, by making member inactive, I end up with unconnected nodes which result in warings when the file runs. It appears that although these are given as warnings, the analysis runs correctly.

Is there a way of making a member inactive along with the associated node?

It seems to me that it is not uncommon to want to model an inactive member which is connected to a support (i.e. single node) at one end. In this case, I have a diagonal brace which connects to another part of the structure (unmodelled) and is represented by a pin support in this model.

  • I have similar error , but sometimes same file in second try or third try runs fine and sometimes this msg keeps popping up and than forcefully making me Run analysis Terminate. Also there are no inactive members present in my Staad....
