Good day guys, I tried designing an isolated pad base on staad foundation CE v9.0.009 using the British code and I was getting very large and unreasonable footing geometry, I tried using eurocode and Indian code and I was getting the right answer with my manual design.
Could this be a mistake from the software?
I am facing the totally opposite issue , solving to Euro code shows unrealistic foundation size .and shows an error at the design stage(reinforcement design stage) that the foundation dimensions ([ERROR] FOOTING HAS FAILED CONCRETE DESIGN. MAXIMUM LIMITS ON FOOTING DIMENSIONS HAVE BEEN REACHED.) while the footing depth is 1 m and the straining actions is very low. while solving to British code is somehow reasnable. What footing size are you getting with the Eurocode?
The current version of SFA is 9.1.0.14. This version computes the footing size as 1.45 m X 1.45 m for the British code, and 1.25 m x 1.25 m for the Eurocode.
In this version as in past versions, the development length required for flexural bars is used as a criteria to determine the minimum footing size. But since that criteria is based solely on a straight bars and doesn't consider the possibility of bends or hooks, it is overly conservative due to which we have recently removed this condition as a criteria. The next version which will be released in a few weeks will show the required size as 1.10 m X 1.10 m.
even when i increase the soil bearing capacity, the footing geometry does not reduce for the british code.
below is a typical foundation with similar loading but designed with two different codes ( british and euro code) giving me two different result
NB: the answer Eurocode provide is correct

Can you please attach the .SFA file?
