Hi,
I modeled a tower structure in STAAD but I am getting weird utilization results. The first time I modeled I got worse utilization of about 16 but now I am seeing a utilization ratio of about 943. Can anyone assist please? Thanks.
First check the analysis results and see if there is any abnormal member forces in that member. Then check the most detailed design output which can be obtained by using the TRACK parameter. It would usually list the details of the intermediate design calculations which would give you an idea as to where the issue is.
Thanks Sye. Is this how to use the TRACK parameter: go to modelling~design~select parameter~define parameters~run analysis~output file.
Am I missing anything?
Yes. You may just directly go to the Define Parameters from Design, in the path you indicated ( in other words bypass the Select Parameters). Also ensure that the TRACK parameter gets added before the CHECK CODE command. The wiki below has more on this

Funny the utilization ratio result look fine after adding the track parameter (without any changes to the load or structure). And now more members have failed than they did previously. I can send over the model to you if you want to take a look. Thanks.
I see. That is weird. Please upload the model here. Also please ensure that you are using the latest STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition software 22.02.00.26.
Thanks. I am using both v18 and v22 connect edition. Same weird results. CAn you also take a look at the way I applied the wind load please.New tower model.std
Any comments on the model in general or loads: wind, temperature etc) will be highly appreciated. Thank you Sye.
