Is it possible to change the default concrete material properties in STAAD? Right now the default young's modulus is 3150 ksi which equates to a compressive strength of about 3000 psi (if you using the equation 57000*sqrt(f'c) or 2700 psi (if using the equation 33*wc^3/2*sqrt(f'c) with 150pcf concrete). The shear modulus is based off the young's modulus. I would like to change the young's modulus and corresponding shear modulus to that of 4000 psi concrete. I can create my own material and use that but would prefer not to have to do this every time I create a model. Thanks!
I think the easiest way to do this would be to edit these values from within the material definition using the input editor, as shown next
DEFINE MATERIAL START
ISOTROPIC CONCRETE
*E 3150
E 4000
POISSON 0.17
DENSITY 8.7e-005
ALPHA 5e-006
Thanks!
I have a similar Material Properties question but in reverse to what was asked. I am using 3000 psi concrete. I know the Modulus of Elasticity is 3122 ksi, but want to verify the Poisson, and Alpha parameter shown in the pic. What is Alpha?
Also, in the STAAD code, this DAMP value is shown. What is DAMP?
Thanks.
Alpha is the coefficient of thermal expansion. It only comes into the picture of you have thermal loads. DAMP refers to the material damping, considered as 5% for concrete by default.
Hi Sir, may I ask if there is any way to include the flexural strength parameter of concrete in the design and analysis of beams? Like overwriting it on the staad editor or something? Thank you so much
