Hi All
I have tried to design a concrete upstand using the RC design in Microtran, the output gave me a warning of "Member 2: Overlap in Critical Shear Locations".
Whats the meaning and effect of this warning and How do I get rid of this warning?
Regards;
Victor
I'm not familiar with that warning. Can you send the file that has the problem and confirm your version?
You can attach it to your reply as a .zip file or use Secure File Upload

Hi Seth,
File attached. If you go and run the RC design for all the beams. One of the beam will experience the overlapping critical shear warning.

Hi Victor,
I will prefaced response below with this - Microstran RC design has not been maintained for a very long time and is outdated. We have other solution such as STAAD and RAM that is more updated and may suit your needs.Having said that:If you are using CONNECT Edition of Microstran, when you select to design RC interactively you should see a small "?" icon in the top right of the dialog. You can query the meanings of the fields in the dialog if you select that.Under Shear Design, you can get rid of the warning by changing the values of "Critical Section" to 0:Additional Explanatory Note:You previously had these Set to "A"= 1 and "B" = 1, these results in the two areas overlapping (due to the beam length being so short Member 2 Length only 280 mm and your section depth is 200 mm).
