SNow load defintion STAAD

Hello all
I am trying to use The snow load definition to generate the snow load for the first time and have some questions related to that.

1)  when specifying Ground Snow load value, to generate snow loads acting on the roof members, Postie value will mean that  it is acting downward Is that right ?

2) when creating Floor Group to apply the snow load at : a) Do I have to form a closed loops of the beams or I can select only the rafters to distribute the snow loads to them ?

  b) do I need to specify each sloped part in a separate group and apply the load on each slope part separately or is it OK if grouped them all within the same group and apply the load to them at one time as shown below ?

C) after applying the load Can I view the load and load values in the GUI ??

  • Just few points with respect to Q2.

    a. You need to create a closed floor group including all the peripheral members as well as the intermediate members. Program will apply the snow load on the members which are present in the floor group. If you don't include any member in the group, snow load will not be applied on that member. If you have some purlin or cross bracing members present in the roof level which are not directly subjected to the snow load, then you can ignore those members.

    b. For each different slope, you need to create a separate floor group. If you create a single floor group with all the members present in different slope, then program is unable to apply the snow load on any member.

    c. At this moment, you can not view the loading diagram graphically. But you can cross check the applied snow loading by using PRINT LOAD DATA command. In the output file, all the members which are loaded due to snow load will be mentioned along with the applied force component. This is a good way to cross check point a and b mentioned above. All the post-processing results are displayed graphically in the post-processing window.
