Hi,
I am designing a single angle member in compression where another lateral brace at mid point is connected to break length.
Please see attachment for configuration.
While calculating KL/r as per clause E5 of AISC 360-05, STAAD always pick Ly assigned length as L.
Do I need to consider Ly as half length as it is restraint at middle, for calculating compression capacity.
Or Ly as full length, since no out of plane restraint is provided for calculating compression capacity.

The restraint is in-plane and so for buckling out of plane, you should consider the full length.
Yes, I agree for out of plane bucking, full length should be considered. But do we calculate KL/r as per clause E5 of AISC-360-05 with full length as L or direct K*full length /radius of gyration of geometric axis.
