I have a non-building structure constructed with steel plate (A36 or 316 SS) with angle stiffeners and a channel section base. The channels are fastened to a braced frame. Will Ram Elements check the steel plate shell elements for bending, tension and compression with the AISC code check?
Should I define each shell element to match the stiffener framework geometry to get the right slenderness calculation by Ram? I would assume that Ram could mesh the shell and stiffeners as needed.
Can I use the Selfweight in the X, Y and Z global directions to model seismic lateral loads for the steel members and plates? In a similar manner, I would like to model a portion of the structure without the support frame with a 3G load for transporting it?
Any more suggestions?
You can report various kinds of forces or stresses for plates, but we don't perform any code checks on them in Ram Elements. Slenderness ratio's won't matter. You can apply self-weight vectors in X or Z directions if needed.
