To use STAAD pro to design spread of strip foundation I model a plate and analyze it as finite element model.
Is the base pressure same as the soil bearing capacity? If not how to check the allowable soil bearing capacity in the modeled plate?
How to figure out the design moment and shear?
Regards..
Hazim
Base pressure is the actual pressure on the soil and not the bearing capacity. You need to compare the base pressure with the allowable bearing capacity of the soil that you get from the geotechnical report for your site. Moments for plates ( Mx or My ) and out of plane shear stresses ( SQX and SQY) can be obtained from the post processing tables. Having mentioned that, if you are trying to design foundations you may just use the STAAD Foundation Advanced software which would automate all of these tasks.
Sye,
You mean STAAD Foundation/Mat design.
I am referring to the STAAD Foundation Advanced software which is fully integrated with STAAD.Pro and can be accessed from within STAAD.Pro by using the Foundation Design workflow as marked below.
You will be able to design isolated footings, combined footings and pile caps with the STAAD.Pro license. For mat foundation analysis and design, you will need to have the license for STAAD Foundation Advance.
