RAM Connection - Fin Plate Design Checks

  1. Does it consider effect of long joint? SS EN 1993-1-8 Cl 3.8
  2. For fin plate and welds, does it consider nominal moment check?

On a side note, is there any way to design cast-in plates? (to SCI P416)

  • Hi David, cl 3.8 of EN 1993-1-8 is NOT considered as RAM Connection adopts the guidance for fin plates as noted in SCI Publication P358. This publication limits the fin plates to a maximum size of 180mmx180x10mm thick and so this size does not fall within the long joint criteria. Nominal moment in the connection is considered in the shear checks as noted in Check 3 of the SCI guide.

Cast in plates to P416 is not available as yet but is on the development list.
