Good day, I just started practising staad with a friends PC and I noticed that staad has an option for one way spanning slab.
now my question goes does, if I change it from the default (longer direction) To the shorter direction. or design a two-way slab as a one way and I span it in the shorter direction is it possible in real life?
STAAD would typically distribute the one way type loading on the long beams which is how it would be in reality. The Towards option in provided in addition, to give the user an opportunity to override that, in case needed. Let's say, if you have precast panels resting on the beams spanning the shorter direction.

Okay I get, if I’m constructing an in-situ concrete slab do I have to place my main rebar in the direction I put my one way slab load towards to transfer the slab load in that direction as a one way? And would it be realistic?
In a one way slab, the main rebar should be along the direction of load transfer. The rebars in the other direction are just distribution steel. When it comes to applying the floor load with One way distribution option, depending on the way the load distribution is for your slab, you may choose the Towards option or simply go with the default .
