How to change the print paper size in Ram Concept?

Is there a way to change the print paper size in Ram Concept? I am wanting to print a certain plan in my Concept model to a large PDF file (such as an Arch E size sheet - 36x48) so the entire model plan view is visible on one sheet at a readable scale. I can change the scale and print area, and I can select a larger paper size from the selected printer's properties. However, no matter what size paper I print to, Ram Concept is printing as if it were 8.5x11 paper. So when I print on a larger paper size (ie: Arch E size paper), only the top left corner (8.5x11 inches worth of paper) gets printed. When the print scaling is such that it would take (4) sheets of 8.5x11 paper to print the model, it is printing (4) Arch E size sheets with the model only printing in the 8.5x11 inches of the top left corner of the Arch E size sheet. See screenshots. Thanks.

  • Use Reports - Select and Configure printers to set the paper size.  We've seen some situations where that did not work and in those cases we have changed the Windows default printer and restarted Concept as a solution. • Seth, thanks for your quick reply. I have tried both of the options you suggested with no luck. The same results still happen. I have tried two different PDF printers (Bluebeam and Adobe) and both keep printing as described in my original post. Any other suggestions?

Side note: I am able to successfully print to an 11x17 size PDF sheet. However, no other larger size sheets seem to work. When I select a larger size, it goes back to printing 8.5x11 size in the corner of the larger sheet per my original post. I can live with the 11x17 size if there aren't any other options.

    Thanks.

  • If you are trying to create a PDF, then there is the Ram Concept native export to PDF you can try. Or I suppose you could export the plan to CAD and print from a CAD program. Here's some text from another case long ago that involved Bluebeam print drivers, it might help...

I really am sorry that I've taken so long to address this question.  I just wasn't able to devote the time to investigating it during our release cycle.  I've been able to look into it during our post-release lull, and I think I can mostly explain why the settings are changing.

(Another user had similar problems with a PDF "printer" called BlueBeam.  That's what I refer to here, but I've verified the same type of probems with NitroPDF and PrimoPDF.  BlueBeam also defines an 11x17 page size.)

Concept persists user page setup by storing the values in the registry per user and per printer.  We use those values to setup the printer and the Page Setup dialog.  The Page Setup dialog is a Windows system dialog that communicates with the printer driver to populate the paper size names.

The first problem is that the BlueBeam printer defines several "custom" paper sizes that are equivalent to Windows' predefined paper sizes.  For example, BlueBeam defines "11 x 17" and "ANSI_B_" as custom paper sizes that are equivalent to the predefined Tabloid (11 x 17 in).  When Concept creates the Page Setup, we set the size to 11 x 17 in; the dialog sets the size choice to "Tabloid".  The dialog doesn't seem to care about the "11 x 17" names, it always matches "Tabloid".  This behavior is surprising, but reasonable if you know that the sizes are the same.

The second problem is that for some custom paper sizes, the setup dialog doesn't match the custom size correctly and it gets the wrong size name.  For example, if I select BlueBeam's ANSI_C page size and print, I get the 17x22" output file I expected.  But if I go back to the Page Setup, the size selector says Letter.  If I Cancel, the size doesn't get changed.  I can continue to print at 17x22.  But if I go back to the Page Setup and click OK, the dialog will set the size to Letter.

(Adding insult to injury, Windows does define a 17x22 paper size called CSHEET.  If BlueBeam had just declared that it supports CSHEET, instead of only the custom 17x22 size, the page setup dialog would have mapped ANSI_C to CSHEET.)

It's not a problem for every custom size.  The Page Setup dialog sets the size choice correctly for BlueBeam's Ansi_J4.

I don't know how much what I've described here has to do with the Page Setup dialog and how much with the printer driver.  I'm running 64bit Windows 7.  I wouldn't be surprised the same version of BlueBeam behaved a little differently on XP or Vista.

So the bottom line is that setting the page size in the Page Setup dialog works reliably, but the Page Setup dialog doesn't always initialize the Size widget to the last size you set.
